GM Announces New Mini Car

August 4, 2008

General Motors, one of the leading manufacturers of SUVs and Trucks has seen declining sales ever since the price of oil has hit new highs. The price of gas is not expected to come down any time soon which is worrying share holders and causing the price of GM’s stock to trade at the lowest in several decades.

In response, General Motors has developed plans to manufacture a new mini car. U.S. mini cars are becoming popular once again since they are generally cheaper and receive better gas mileage. Sales of the U.S mini car are up a little over 35% which lends some creditability to GM’s new plan.

General Motor’s plans that the mini car will be a Chevrolet called the Beat and is hoping to entice young drivers in urban areas to the model. Inner city driving which was once dominated by SUVs and large utility trucks are now being replaced by hybrids and compact cars. The Beat will be a three door hatch back model boasting a small size with a decent amount of storage area.

Analysts see the new model as General Motor’s response to a declining market and record amounts of job cuts that have plagued the company since last year. It is unknown how much the Beat will cost though it is rumoured to start at $10,000 in the United States.

Mini cars are just the newest trend car makers are employing in an effort to boost sagging sales. Incentives, rebates, and other perks are expected to help as well. General Motors has been among the hardest hit due in large part to their specialization in the larger gas guzzling vehicles. The sooner the company can roll out the Beat the better the belief in the company’s ability to meet new and drastic demands will be among share holders and consumers.

    direct drive car…

No matter. The ultra- battery will make that acrimonious debate laughably irrelevant— and the sooner that happens, the better, as far as I’m concerned. Why? Because the right ultrabattery could provide the entire world’s population with a practical…
